Thanks for all your hard work Marian! xo
20 great quilt designers are creating quilt rows with the Seasons themes for mixing and matching! I’ve seen some previews of the rows and they are ADORABLE!
If you are creating blocks and rows for your own row quilt from the patterns for EQ Seasons RAL, please consider joining the Flickr and Facebook Support Group. There are drawings for giveaways when you upload your blocks and/or rows to the Flickr Group.
The Craftsy/Flickr giveaway will run the entire length of the RAL.
Their is no need to sign up, just come and visit on each Tuesday in September, and the first and second Tuesdays in October. All giveaways will end by October 13, 2015 and winners announced within 48 hours of final deadline.

My chosen row is with the Fall/Autumn theme -
Autumn is a great time of year. The cold wind brings much relief after the HOT summer of South Africa, the leaves start to turn wonderful colours and birds gather everywhere getting ready to fly off for winter. Autumn is harvest time too. A row with all that in mind was born -
This is the row that I have designed using EQ7 software -
The row measures 8" x 60" - and is divided up into 6 blocks of 8x10" that follow on from each other.
The design is Foundation Paper Piecing on the Intermediate level.
A special thank you to Northcott Fabrics for supplying the background fabrics to make this awesome row, and all of our other suppliers for sharing some EPIC prizes for this Row A Long.
How did we get there??
When I design a block using the EQ7 program, I start with a blank block in the easy draw tab.
Easy draw is similar to using a pen and paper. As long as the lines connect you're good. Paper piecing needs straight lines that connect with each other.
Once I've used the fabrics to "colour" my block, I will save it by adding it to my sketchbook.
I also make a notecard for each block with it's name and the size of the print blocks.
Now I need to turn it into a Foundation pieced pattern. When you click the button that looks like a little printer, the options open and you can choose Foundation pattern.
A pop up window appears and you need to do your "segments" first. You will group your segments that will make the templates and separate pattern pieces.
Unfortunately if you make a mistake, you start again from the very beginning...
Now you move back to the "numbering" tab and you will add numbers to the segments you have created.
Once the numbering is all done, I like to take a screenshot of this box. I save it as a JPeg along with any of my other pages in a file - that have anything to do with this pattern.
EQ7 doesn't let you print out this numbering sheet but I have found that I need it when laying the pieces out before sewing.
Now you are ready to print your pattern pieces.
You cannot just press the print button because you will need to re-arange the segments first.
You only work with the PREVIEW button and then move the pieces around on the page until you get the best fit. Some of the pieces won't fit and will have to be placed over a double page and then joined later.
Now you can print out your pattern pieces.
Remember to always print to Actual size on your printer and not print to fit.
Once the segments are cut out, I arrange them onto my desk - remembering that with paper piecing it will be mirrored so it will be 'opposite' to the layout image.
Now I write onto the paper which colour I want where - to save me a headache later.
You can always make yourself a colour chart and stick small bits of coloured fabrics to a page with a colour number or you can arrange the fabrics around on your desk and just work from there.
I dug around in my fabric stash and found colours that I felt best represented Autum/Fall and decided to go with those.
Northcott Fabrics sent us the background fabric to use on our rows (really cool!) so the white was used in all the blocks as a background.
Each of the segments was finished first and then the fun part came as I sewed them together. The instructions in the pattern will help with this part.
If you find that some of the seams are bulky, you can iron them open as you go along.
Each one of the blocks didn't take too much time to make on its own, and I had to stop frequently because I have 'Frozen Shoulder syndrome'.
Once I had finished making my blocks, I could sew them all together taking care to match up lines from previous blocks.
Blocks 1 - 3
Blocks 4 - 6
This is my completed Autum/Fall row.....
I hope you will all give it a go...
I hope you enjoy making this row even tho' Paper Piecing can be a little time consuming, it's always worth it in the end. Your Fall/Autumn row will ROCK!
